Top 10 Romance Anime
Sunday, February 14, 2016
Alright guys, it's the day we all dread every year... Valentines Day! Rather than Netflix and chilling why not "anime and chill"? Ok, bad joke... Since it's Valentines day and love is in the air, I thought it would be smart to bring you some of my favourite romance anime. And with that I bring you a list of my top 10 romance anime!
This top 10 list will be based on my top 10 favourite romance anime/ shoujo. This is just a personal list and shouldn't be taken too seriously. If you have a romance anime that you loved but don't see on this list, feel free to post it in the comment section below. Please enjoy.
10. Kaichou wa Maid-sama!
I have to open this list with this shoujo, I think this was one of the first shoujo anime I watched when I really got into anime watching. If you're a shoujo fan and have not seen Kaichou wa Maid-Sama, then you should add this to your plan to watch list. The uptight Misaki and the shady/territorial Usui makes for some good anime. Kaichou wa Maid-sama is pretty shoujo formulaic but hey, that's not a bad thing!

9. Clannad: After Story
Everyone has to watch Clannad, it's like a rite of passage if you become an avid anime watcher. I wasn't a big fan of Clannad but but it's successor, Clannad: After Story was really something else. Seeing the growing pains of Tomoya in his adulthood and him working a relationship with his daughter endearing to see. Oh, the relationship between Tomoya and Nagisa was nice to see as well!
8. White Album 2
White Album 2 is one of the most underrated anime in my opinion. I'm not sure if people think it's because White Album 2 is a sequel to White Album and they have to watch White Album in order to watch While Album 2. If that's the case you don't since White Album 2 is it's own entity. It's more on the romance/drama side and the anime is more relatable to people than the sometimes obscure things you see in shoujo anime. White Album 2 is an awesome pick if you want an authentic romance anime.
7. Sakamichi no Apollon
I've always had a love-hate relationship with music anime, probably because I was forced to learn piano for a good chunk of my life. None the less so far the anime I've seen under the music genre have not failed me as a viewer, with Sakamichi no Apollon being one of my favourite music anime. It's just a great romance anime with a good love triangle storyline, great music, and a story showing an awesome bromance between Senatrou and Kaoru. No complaints here, and no shoujo gags. Just a good music-based romance.
6. Sukitte Ii na yo
High school drama is the worst right? Well thank god that stuff is left in high school by the time most people graduate. Sukitte Ii na yo leans more towards romance/drama rather than shoujo and brings us back to those drama-filled high school days. Not sure why I really enjoyed this anime, maybe it was the rage inducing moments I had watching some of the altercations between a few of the characters. I can't really put a finger on why I enjoyed Sukitte Ii na yo.... I just did haha!
5. Nisekoi
The uber popular Nisekoi is my fifth favourite romance anime. You know what, I just like a plain romantic comedy and Nisekoi gave me just that. Although the plot got a little bit meh when the second season started, the comedy remained the same. Nisekoi gets points from me for being funny I guess. 4. Hachimitsu to Clover
It's been a while since I've watched Hachimitsu to Clover, I really want to watch this again since the anime is more relatable to me now than at the time I was watching it. It's about a group of college/ university students that basically working their way through school and then try to figure it out from there. I get quite sombre as I think of this series since I'm at the point in my life where what the characters are going through in this anime, I'm going through. Don't be put off, Hachimitsu to Clover is hilarious and freaking awesome!
3. Itazura na Kiss
All I want in a shoujo is Itazura na Kiss. Ditzy and upfront Kotoko and very blunt/shady Irie, the two are like oil and water in the beginning but things mesh out later on. The anime is kind of rushed but honestly I don't care, both of them made an awesome combination and it was freaking hilarious at times how shady Irie was towards Kotoko. They find themselves in an unusual situation in the anime which catalyses the comedy even more. There needs to be more shoujo like Itazura na Kiss!
2. Kimi ni Todoke
Runner up for my favourite romance anime ever is Kimi ni Todoke- this anime was one of the firsts that I've watched when I started getting into anime. The most popular guy in school falls for the most least popular girl in school; seems like this kind of stuff only happens in anime. It's somewhat formulaic in terms of what you'd expect from any shoujo anime, but Kimi ni Todoke has it's own perks. I really liked it since Kazehaya and Sawako are both introverts and it was kind of cute watching them interact with each other. Friendship also played a role in this anime which was my favourite part of the anime other than the romance. Give Kimi ni Todoke a watch if you haven't seen it yet.
1. Nana
And my all time favourite romance/ shoujo is....Nana! All hail Nana! It's the creme de la creme of all shoujo's. There's nothing that I can think of that can measure up to the sheer goodness of Nana. The anime is more geared towards an older audience since sex is a reoccurring theme in the anime. But other than that it's an amazing story about friendship, and the domino effect of how one bad decision can lead to another. Don't let the fact that this anime is 47 episodes long put you off from watching Nana, you'll be begging for more episodes as you come near to the end!
That's it for this top 10 list, thanks for reading. I hope you enjoy your Valentines day! See you guys soon~
